What's New for the 2018 Nissan Altima?

The 2018 Nissan Altima lineup has been dramatically reconfigured compared to the previous year model. This stylish mid-size sedan now comes only in one trim that has the 3.5-level badge. Some of the 2.5-level trims have been replaced by the SR Special Edition and SR Midnight Edition. These sporty cars have the Sport Prima-Tex, active grille shutters and other cool installations. Nissan has also decided to standardize the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning with automatic braking in the base trim package. Additionally, the traditional NissanConnect infotainment system has been upgraded to deliver seamless connectivity on the road. This signature portal supports Google and Apple applications and many other digital services that deliver entertainment and guidance on demand.

Trims & Features

The 2018 Nissan Altima base trim carries the 2.5 S identification. This entry-level model has a starting price tag of just over $23,000. Siri Eyes Free and Bluetooth are standard connectivity features in this affordable edition. The RearView Monitor is another technology that's integrated into the 2.5 S model. To get the key to the 2.5 SR, you have to spend slightly over $24,000. A rear spoiler, sport-tuned suspension system and 18-inch alloy wheels are standard installations on this vehicle. As you might of guessed, the SR Special Edition and SR Midnight Edition have spectacular styling. The Nissan Navigation System with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are some of the premium technology features in these exclusive Altima trims. Moving up the lineup, you'll see the 2.5 SV and 2.5 SL models that are outfitted with even more advanced installations, like the Remote Engine Start and Intelligent Climate Control. As the name hints, the 3.5 SL edition is the most expensive Altima. This high-end model has the Front and Rear Sonar System that scans the vicinity for obstacles.

Horsepower

2018 Nissan Altima ExteriorEvery 2018 Altima that wears the 2.5-level badge is powered by a classic 2.5 L engine, which has four cylinders. You can extract just less than 180 horsepower from this naturally aspirated engine that utilizes a variable induction system. When running at more than 4,000 RPM, this I-4 engine delivers slightly under 180 lb-ft of peak torque. To no surprise, a 3.5 L V6 engine is standard in the Altima 3.5 SL edition. The maximum hp rating for this six-cylinder engine is 270 at 6,400 RPM. The engine needs to operate at 4,400 RPM to produce slightly over 250 lb-ft of torque. Both engines take advantage of a drive-by-wire throttle and the Continuously Variable Valve Timing. This advanced valve-manipulating mechanism is integrated into the intake and exhaust components of the 2.5 L engine. The 3.5 L engine uses the timing technology only for the intake of air and fuel.

Safety

2018 Nissan Altima InteriorCompared to previous-generation safety technology, the 2018 Nissan Altima's Intelligent Forward Collision Warning is more responsive and sophisticated. This installation has the ability to sense the potential of a forward crash at relatively fast speeds. If it determines that you haven't taken enough action to prevent an accident, the Automatic Emergency Braking will act accordingly. To make your extended commute in the Altima less tedious, just turn on the Intelligent Cruise Control that automatically responds to traffic flow. Instead of just looking over your shoulder during an attempt of a lane change, remember to follow the cues from the Blind Spot Warning. Some of the safety features in the Nissan Altima will appear in the Advanced Drive-Assist Display. As in previous years, this sedan is available with the Easy-Fill Tire Alert in the tire pressure monitoring system.
