What's New For the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder?

An affordably priced three-row SUV laden with standard convenience features and boasting a robust V6 engine, the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder will appeal to those who desire a roomy, functional family transport. It's not as flashy or sporty as some rivals, but it's quite passenger-friendly and easy to operate. This model received some major upgrades for 2019, including the addition of some much-desired driver aids as standard on all but the base trim, additional USB ports, and standard rear parking sensors on the uplevel models. The 2020 Pathfinder is similarly equipped, and the new Rock Creek Edition package will appeal to some buyers.

The Nissan Pathfinder Has Many Features Across Four Trims

Four trims are available. The base S trim comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, tri-zone automatic climate control, a split-folding second-row seat with a sliding and reclining function, and an 8-inch screen display. The six-speaker sound system includes HD and satellite radio. Dual USB ports in both the front and rear seating areas are also standard, as is Bluetooth and a CD player. The SV trim adds on foglights, automatic headlights, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. An available package add-on gets the buyer heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

The SL trim comes with this package as standard equipment and also features LED headlights, leather upholstery, a power liftgate, and heated second-row seats. The range-topping Platinum trim bundles all available options and adds a power-adjustable steering column and wood accents. A rear-seat entertainment system is available on this trim. The Rock Creek Edition model has unique exterior styling elements, including a blackout treatment and fender flares.

What's Under the Hood of the 2020 Pathfinder?

2020 Nissan PathfinderOne of the big selling points of the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder is the capable V6 engine. This engine produces a total of 284 horsepower, and it's mated to a continuously variable transmission. Some buyers tend to balk at the idea of a CVT in a crossover SUV, but this one is highly touted by consumers and critics. The response is excellent, and there's no hesitation when the vehicle is under rapid acceleration.

Front-wheel drive is standard, but the buyer can choose an all-wheel-drive with hill descent control and a four-wheel-drive locking system that promises extra traction control. The 2020 Pathfinder is capable of towing up to 6,000 pounds, very impressive for this vehicle segment. Handling is excellent, the steering is precise, and the CVT works well at moderate arterial speeds, making this model a good choice for everyday city driving.

2020 Nissan Pathfinder has an Abundance of Safety Features

2020 Nissan PathfinderStandard on all 2020 Pathfinder trims is four-wheel ABS, stability and traction control, dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags for the second and third rows, and child seat anchors and tethers. Automatic emergency braking and reverse parking sensors are standard even on the base trim. Driver safety aids are standard on all uplevel trims, and the SL and Platinum trims come with a top-down 360-degree parking camera. The IIHS gave the 2020 models a rating of "Good" for side impact protection and roof strength, and the NHTSA awarded this model five stars for overall protection. Overall, this is one of the safest three-row crossovers on the market.
